A smarter vision

My search for a job has ended as of about 10 days ago. So that whole unemployment thing only lasted for a week, which is quite awesome when you think about it. What is the new job? Well I took another production job at Gentex Corporation in Zeeland, MI. It all happened so fast that it kind of sacred me too.

I literally applied there, wrote and email to and HR representative I knew of, and the next day had an interview lined up for the following day with an assessment day after that. Then all of last week I had orientation where they mainly showed the repetitive nature of the work to be done. Cool thing in all of this is that I will be in somewhat familiar territory as my last job. I will be in the EA department, or Electronics Assembly. It is a highly automated and clean multiple line department that constructs all the circuit cards for features in automobile mirrors. Oh, but this time I will not be coating circuit boards, yay!

What sucks in all of this is that I will be on 2nd shift, but if you want a job you have to do somethings you may never have done or want to. I have to be grateful for the fact that I do have a job, and getting one so quick after losing the first one. What is awesome is the the potential to move up to bigger and better things. This company has it together in their structure; something I think my old employer was not to good at mainly due to size.

If you have a car with a LCD screen in for rear viewing or something simple as a directional display in the mirror, think of me working away on those mirrors. Hope this company is a great fit in my future. Well I guess I know it will. Oh, and now its real good that I bought that new Jetta, eh?

Laid off and Looking for Work

So last week Thursday was my last day at work. It was unexpected, but not entirely surprising given a few facts. I am a little distappointed that I was one of the 130 choosen to be laid off, but what can you do the economy sucks and wars do not last forever.

I guess I should have seen this coming. Things were really busy for awhile and we were doing lots of overtime. But when only a certain amount of units are needed, it should have been clear that after a time there would be cuts on orders. I think when I first started I had looked it up  how many units the customer was given by the US Army and it only was enough for a year, if we had continued at the pace we were going. And guess what, not even a year later I am back where I started, jobless.

So I was paying off student loans primarily with the income I was making, but now I have to go on unemployment and might have to defer some of those loans, we shall see. so that sucks. Oh and from my last post you will find that I (kind of stupidly) bought a new car too. So great.

Anyway, I am looking for work again because I cannot wait from them to call me back, if that even ever happens. I am a college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a concentration in electrical and computer. I enjoy electrical hardware and electronics from the design to the testing of. So if you know of and can help me in any way with getting into the electrical engineering field that would be awesome!

So here is  a link to my resume should you need it to pass along or in the event that the company you work at is hiring. Here is it is: here. Thanks for all your help!

Apparently, that last post was rather looked at by a lot of what I assume to be fellow employees and even some of the new company too. Yeah, I know it was not really totally right of me to write a post about  the new change over, but hey that’s the biggest thing to happen in my life right now and usually such things can be very big deals to those who are involved.

But I also want to reiterate the fact that I am not worried about this new partnership, in fact I welcome it. I see it as a opening to bigger possible futures. Maybe someday people where I work can transfer to other locations if they deem it needed. Also, the company would have to approve that kind of thing anyway. On that note, I wouldn’t mind transferring to Australia or the Netherlands, wink wink.

Hopefully, I am not going to get in trouble, but hey we shall see. But this blog does seem to be attracting a lot of traffic for people trying to find out more about ABT now. Thanks anyway for giving me record traffic on here though. Now I wonder what else I can write about that would attract more people? We shall see and I shall see what happens with all you viewers.

It sure has been awhile

Wow. A month of no posts of any kind. now that is just down right ridiculous! I mean this is isn’t a first priority thing to do, but I sure thought that I would be writing here more.

I guess it is all just as well though, because really there is nothing new and exciting to write about anyway. There has been no new changes in work life or home life. Although, I do have to work the “off” Fridays at work now because they are mandatory due to ramp up in production. I guess the military really wants those weapons! But really thats not even a change because I have been working all the Fridays for the past 3 to 4 months anyway. What sucks is now you need to use vacation or personal time to take those off and being I had 2 wedding s to go to on Fridays, that sucks majorly. Oh well, roll with the punches of life.

I wouldn’t say I hate my job, but I definitely don’t love it. The company is really nice and most of the people there are awesome as well. As a bonus for working those extra Fridays they give us gift cards to Meijer, which is pretty sweet. But I would really like to be doing something different there or in my life in general. I don’t know why, but I have a strong sense that I want to somehow have a job that incorporates travel, probably lots of it. Also, my desire to at least go to Australia and New Zealand is starting to really grow too. Dang, why can’t I just win the lottery and just do whatever the heck I want? For that matter why is it the the root of most of these problems is because you need money.

Ah, money, you made up idea on which we somehow place value in. I think it is stupid, but necessary. But I think we all wish it was a little easier to just do things that relate to money usage. Oh well, thats the way the world works.

Now I don’t know when the next post shall be, but hopefully not in June. Probably, and I say that with great hesitation, the next post will be about the show Chuck. Yes, yet again. I know most people don’t watch the show or know anything about it, but I want to to come back for a 4th season and right now its on the bubble of being canceled at NBC. But who really knows. All I know is that the Lost has well, lost me as a crazy fan mainly due its sheer craziness in this last season. But Chuck has become my favorite and it needs some help. Well so does NBC with most of their shows not doing too awesome. Well the next time I post may be around the 17th, because thats when they tell if shows are coming back offialcially.

Until that time, have a wonderful start to May and midspring!

Apparently it’s 2010

Yet again, I am not the regular blogger that I thought I might turn out to be. Then again I started this when I had no job as a thing to do to take up time and such. So I guess its not really surprising that this blog is gone by the wayside. At least its better than my first attempt on Blogger 2 years ago or so.

But apparently I never got to doing a special post for Christmas and New Years. Eh, thats not the worst but I thought maybe they would have happened. Well I guess in my vacation mode from work I chose not to make posts those days. And what do you know? It’s fricken 2010! How fast did that past decade go?

In those past 10 years a lot happened and it all started with the end of middle school and the beginnings of high school. And then the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001. So it started off rather “exciting” with all the changes in my life and the changes in the world. Of course, the terror attacks aren’t really exciting, but they sure as heck changed the way the world works. The rest of high school was rather an average experience, so thats not worth telling. Then I graduated from Calvin Christian High School to go on to Calvin College. (Yeah, went to all schools with Calvin in the name.)

Calvin College was by far my favorite days in school. Not the whole homework aspect, but the meeting of new friends and the classes were fun for their part too. I majored in Engineering and concentrated in Electrical and Computer fields. Graduation was in May 2009 and then it was time to find a job.

The whole finding a job thing took a long time, especially in a crappy economy like we had. But as it turned out a place I had been looking at before school even ended hired me in mid-November. Borisch Manufacturing is the place and I like it there. I am no engineer, yet, but thats ok with me for now. Hopefully, there is some future opportunities there for advancement, it seems they do that a lot, which is good.

So thats how the decade and therefore 2009 ended. Pretty good for at least me maybe not so much the world, but it will change again soon enough. So what will 2010 and the new decade bring? Who knows, but it will always be fun to find out.

Paycheck Surprise

Well I this week I was certainly surprised when I got my paycheck. There was two of them this week. Why? Because apparently they give out bonuses every so often at work. Well, I had heard about it at work from other fellow employees, but did not think I would get anything because I had not put in my 90 days yet. Well that obviously proved false, which makes me happy.

I think I am going to love working at Borisch for those simple little things. I knew they were a Christian company, but did not really expect too much to come out of that. But they know how to treat their people/employees. I have heard that over and over again from others there. And thats awesome.

Oh, and I am pretty sure its awesome that I get the whole week of Christmas off! That on top of every other Friday off of work provides a lot of nice mini vacation time. I will get paid for the holidays eventually, but that bonus makes up for that this year. At least thats how I look at it.

As for do I like it? Well, yes, I believe I do. I cannot really think of any negatives. Especially negatives that outweigh working in the food manufacturing industry the last 2 summers. That was dirty and nasty, this is clean and controlled. Much more attuned to detail, like I consider myself to be. And its technology oriented! I mean come on. Food is boring, defense and aerospace is way more awesome!

Well, just wanted to write something down again because I got feeling bad about not updating. Why? I don’t really know. Its not like there is many viewers anyway. Although, I am tracking hits and get strange ones from Amazon.com and stuff. Don’t really know who that could be, but let me just say I love Amazon! Haha. Creep out the readers is my game. Anyway, I should get another “recommends” post out soon too or something completely different, who really knows. Tot ziens!

New way of life

This past week was my first week of working at Borisch Manufacturing Company. It is going very well so far, and I can see no real big problems with the job. But with only a week in that very well might change. The biggest reason for me taking the job was because I was so sick of searching for a job at all. Plus the whole thing happened so fast I was just wiling to take anything when it came to me.

As it happens me and some friends had been planning for quite some time to go down to Fort Bragg in North Carolina to surprise a friend, Mitch, at his graduation as a Green Beret. He had come up to our graduation in May from Calvin College, so we wanted to support him in his accomplishments too. So we devised an awesome plan with his girlfriend, Esther, to meet up with her and his parents at the ceremony. We drove from various places like Grand Rapids, MI and Wayne, NJ to meet up in Beaver Falls, PA only to drive trough the night with either little or no sleep and get to Fort Bragg. In the end, we totally surprised Mitch and I think he was a bit angry at the secrets needed to accomplish it, but he was grateful too.

Job search over!

Today, I had an interview. Today, I accepted a job. Well is that pretty sweet? All these months of trying to get a job and I finally have landed something. Well what is it you may wonder? I went in today for an interview at Borisch Manufacturing, which is in the defense and aerospace industry, for a Electrical Assembly job. The interview went well  and I had a dexterity test as well, which I thought went pretty good too.

Then this afternoon I got a call from HR there saying that they wanted to offer me the Coating Operator position. So I got a different job than the one I interviewed for, but that is ok with me. Plus, I would guess that some assembly will be required. HAHA, jokes are fun! Anyway, I start bright and early on Monday morning at 6:30am. This I will have to get used too, but I am sure it will be fine.

All in all, I am very happy to finally have a job. It may not entail engineering, but I think I will still enjoy it and there could be opportunity to move up in the future. Here is to becoming a member of the real world at last!
