Apparently, that last post was rather looked at by a lot of what I assume to be fellow employees and even some of the new company too. Yeah, I know it was not really totally right of me to write a post about  the new change over, but hey that’s the biggest thing to happen in my life right now and usually such things can be very big deals to those who are involved.

But I also want to reiterate the fact that I am not worried about this new partnership, in fact I welcome it. I see it as a opening to bigger possible futures. Maybe someday people where I work can transfer to other locations if they deem it needed. Also, the company would have to approve that kind of thing anyway. On that note, I wouldn’t mind transferring to Australia or the Netherlands, wink wink.

Hopefully, I am not going to get in trouble, but hey we shall see. But this blog does seem to be attracting a lot of traffic for people trying to find out more about ABT now. Thanks anyway for giving me record traffic on here though. Now I wonder what else I can write about that would attract more people? We shall see and I shall see what happens with all you viewers.

As with many Americans in thus current economy my luck at finding a job has been rather disappointing so far. I have had at least five interviews thus far, but so far all of them have said “no” or “another candidate has been selected” or something to that effect. Even ones for internships or part-time jobs are hard to get. Look I am free all the time I have no more school to go to. I am prefect because I have no other real commitments to things like school anymore. I knew that it was going to be hard finding work, but didn’t think internships would just as hard. That is frankly ridiculous.

And why is it that most places I apply are not hiring people like me? Well probably because of at least one single stupid reason. GPA. Without a high enough GPA in this country you are weeded out before they even begin to look at the rest if your resume. Why is GPA so strong an indicator to “how smart you are”? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that is a flag thats says how good at school you are. Well I think thats pretty much bull because some people go through school without having to do anything to get good grades while others struggle through because it takes them longer to get concepts. The latter is where I see myself. Therefore that makes GPA an unfair assessor for the overall quality in candidates.

In my view people who do not have such good records in school typically have more common sense, which often more useful in life than just book knowledge. But this is not always true either, just everything else in life is not easy to tack down in specifics and rules.

Anyway. enough about that. What started me thinking on this is the Obama Administration’s new idea to pay off the Taliban in Afghanistan to switch sides to help the USA fight the rest of them. Apparently, we have been doing this is Iraq already, which I either did not know or remember. Whatever the case there, I think it is just plain stupid on both accounts. Lets roll back history here a second. Who gave what is now Al Qaeda weapons when Russia tried invading the Afghan region. Oh ya, that was us. As in the US! Well that did not go well for us in the end, did it? No, of course not because we are now fighting them under the War on Terror. So employing them, the Taliban, to switch side temporarily seems like a rather dumb idea because once we are finished there do we just take all the supplies back? Ans won’t they just go back to being the way they were? I think so. People are not easy to change. Money may do it temporarily, but it won’t bring a lasting peace.

So the heck are we going to us more money for outside country purposes when I and millions of others are sitting at home trying to find a job. Pay me Obama! I will go  and hunt the people if thats what will make it work. I would rather not go there, but while I sit at home wishing for work to come around why don’t we just try to fix what we don’t have here and worry about that all later. It sounds to me like joining the Taliban over there right now only to be paid to switch would be a great idea. For all its worth most people here in the US don’t really care what is going on over there anymore, but this should get people talking. All this money supposedly being spent for stimulus this, stimulus that, but we are not seeing the outcome of it yet! Well hopefully it all comes full circle and I and the millions of jobless get jobs soon.

For some more information on the Taliban payment go here. It sounds like it is not official yet, but I don’t have the patience to read it fully, it just entices me to write about it. Oh, and Happy Halloween!

Wave of ideas

Yesterday. I finally received my invite to Google Wave! It’s a new Google service said to be “the way email would look like if it was invented today.” Which a pretty big saying, because email was invented about 40 years ago. So its actually a pretty ancient technology in the Internet age where daily new innovation is key to survival. Also, there seems to be a growing trend toward “cloud computing”, which is moving more an more toward web apps. I for one find the web the new desktop and look forward to the future were we no longer rely on saving to desktops and therefore allow us to access data anywhere around the world. Of course, the places you go will need Internet access, but in the future who knows how this will be available for everyone.

Anyway, I will be trying out Google Wave in the next few days and weeks and hopefully get using it quite a bit. Maybe even make blog posts from it. I can already tweet from it using the tweety-wave@appspot.com robot, which is pretty cool. So far I can tell that Wave is not a finished product and in no way is it ready for mass market use. Hence, the “preview” tag attached to it instead of beta. Soon I will try to do a post on what Google Wave is and a little bit of the ins and outs. As of now I cannot offer invites, which makes it less useful, but hope to get more friends and family on it soon.

Peace is talking

Today was a weird day. First NASA bombed the moon to see if they could get ice/water particles to fly off at a detector that only existed for moments to send back data and then proceeded to crash into the moon too. So first of all why in the world are we sending millions of dollars into space only to have it crash literally hours later, so that it is unusable? I guess its for scientific exploration, but I really don’t see the point.

But in other bigger news President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. Oh and he was put in the nomination for this a little less than 2 weeks after he was inaugurated. What heck does that mean? He had not even really talked to anyone yet at that point. The deadline for the prize is Februaury 1, so really to my recollection he had done nothing by then.  Of course I have no real idea what the requirements are for the honor, but that does not exclude the fact that he really should not have received it. There has been a great deal of people that have actually done things to enact peace and ones that are doing it. All Obama ever did was talk about his ideas so far, not really any direct action. All it was in my opinion was a direct attack at former President Bush for his wars. Thing is now Obama has a standard to live up to from those dumb Norwegians at Nobel and he probably will because they want him too. But I hope he fails. He has not done anything in this country yet, so how can he outside of the country? Alright, well I really hate politics, but thats what the Nobel Prize has turned into and its really too bad.

What do you think? From what I gather by most Twitter users it is not really understood why he received the honor. Either way the Nobel Prize now means that I can get it because I think I am going to talk about peace next year. And that should be good enough really.
